SUMMARY:The world is undergoing an economic shift and most economists keep getting things wrong. Why?
DESCRIPTION:The world is undergoing an economic shift and most economists keep getting things wrong. Why? In this friendly yet in-depth conversation\, Chairman Dr. Virak Prum entertained one of the world renowned economists Prof. Michael Pettis on many issues ranging from the advantage of running trade deficits\, the correct way of looking at export-oriented growth model\, the need to boost local consumption\, the Sri Lankan situation\, why China keeps lending to the US and much more. In fact\, surplus is not\, in and by itself\, a good thing. It all depends on the conditions facing a particular economy. One trick for continuing to absorb deficits\, though\, is by ensuring that imported savings (i.e. FDI) are actually funding productive investments. Oh\, a completely free flow of capital? A bad idea indeed! After listening\, you will learn about real-life economics faster than by reading several books on the subject. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:What duties do Board members owe to the company (and thus to shareholders)? How is the US capital market reacting to the uncertainties caused by the current White House? SUMMARY:Economic Factors for Growth
DESCRIPTION:In this juicy conversation\, Chairman Dr. Virak Prum asked Senior Economist Mr. Faya Hayati of the World Bank on the outlook of the global growth\, the projected growth in Cambodia\, what foreign investors would like to see concerning Cambodia’s competitiveness. Faya also illuminated on issues pertaining to low productivity caused by low-skilled labor. Interestingly\, he mentioned the fact that developed countries have been introducing thousands of measures designed to make imports from other parts of the world more difficult. Faya also touched upon key facts from tourism and the shifting trend in how tourists are coming in and spending. When the talk turned to education and living below the poverty line\, a lot of research findings were brought to the fore. The elephant in the room (the informal economy) could not escape the focus\, of course. This is a wonderful and short discussion that sheds light on what Cambodia should concentrate on now that the country is poised to graduate from the Least Developed Country status in the next several years. Listen in\, and keep learning!” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Where are we on our capital market roadmap?
DESCRIPTION:Where are we on our capital market roadmap? In this conversation\, the Securities and Exchange Regulator helped us appreciate new developments in the stock market with a particular emphasis on bonds. Aside from the traditional bonds and thematic bonds (green\, infrastructure…)\, participating companies may now issue private bonds which benefit from greater flexibility. As a system that began with regulations rather than with market freedom\, the capital market here\, unlike elsewhere\, has no legacy problems. We also discussed the potential for future cross-listing that allows investors in Cambodia to invest in companies listed abroad. The door is now open for underwriters/brokers to become qualified\, which will allow their clients to begin trading overseas step by step. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
