Originally from the Dutch Antilles, Ms. Marie (H. Marie Hill) is a communications leader with over a decade of experience in the nonprofit, public, and private sectors. A consummate international, Cambodia is her 11th country to live in. She holds an MFA in Writing and a B.A. in Intercultural Studies. Marie has additionally completed a leadership programme and a Harvard Law executive education course in negotiation.
In addition to teaching business communications, Marie works as a freelance writer, speaker, and trainer. Her work as a photojournalist has been featured in The Washington Post and T.V. in the United States. Notable awards include 2018 Houghton University Alumni Appreciation Award and 2019 finalist for the Washington Women in Public Relations Emerging Leader Award.
Ms. Marie has previously worked in communications with several departments of the U.S. Government, the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for Performing Arts, The Cloudburst Group, as well as INGO’s and higher education institutes. She has also served on several boards of directors, including with the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area, where she also presided as Chair of the Human Rights Committee.
There, she led a team of dedicated members collaborating with U.S. State Department and U.N. officials, the diplomatic community, local NGOs, think tanks, and agencies, winning a grant and submitting two human rights reports to the UNHRC in Geneva. Her most recent role was as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for a global NGO, leading the communications and I.T. departments across 20+ countries.
