In this juicy conversation, Chairman Dr. Virak Prum asked Senior Economist Mr. Faya Hayati of the World Bank on the outlook of the global growth, the projected growth in Cambodia, what foreign investors would like to see concerning Cambodia’s competitiveness. Faya also illuminated on issues pertaining to low productivity caused by low-skilled labor. Interestingly, he mentioned the fact that developed countries have been introducing thousands of measures designed to make imports from other parts of the world more difficult. Faya also touched upon key facts from tourism and the shifting trend in how tourists are coming in and spending. When the talk turned to education and living below the poverty line, a lot of research findings were brought to the fore. The elephant in the room (the informal economy) could not escape the focus, of course. This is a wonderful and short discussion that sheds light on what Cambodia should concentrate on now that the country is poised to graduate from the Least Developed Country status in the next several years. Listen in, and keep learning!”
